National kabbadi player Rohit Kumar arrested over wife’s suicide
National kabaddi player Rohit Kumar and his family, who had been missing since the suicide of the sportsman’s wife Lalita Dabas, were arrested by Delhi Police on Friday.
National kabaddi player Rohit Kumar, who had been missing since the suicide of the sportsman’s wife Lalita Dabas, was arrested by a team of Delhi Police in Mumbai on Friday.
Kumar’s father surrendered at Nangloi police station in west Delhi.
The 26-year-old player was in Mumbai when Lalita, two years elder to him, hung herself from a ceiling fan in her west Delhi home around 7:30 pm on Monday. She had left a suicide note and two-and-a-half-hour voice message that alleged her in-laws of harassing her.
Lalita was living in a Nangaloi apartment, having left her husband recently after their marriage in March.
In her suicide note, she accused her in-laws of demanding dowry and Kumar, who played for Bengaluru Bulls in the recently concluded Pro-Kabaddi League, of a share in her father’s property.
She also wrote the pass code for unlocking her mobile phone, a gift from her husband, in which she left two voice messages – one of them was two-hour-long, said an aunt.
A case of dowry death and harassment was registered against Kumar, who is with the navy which he joined in 2009 under the sports quota, and his parents.
