Senior Supreme Court advocate and former advocate general of Madhya Pradesh Vivek Tankha has been appointed as the additional solicitor general.
Tankha, who has wide ranging experience and exposure in commercial laws and litigation, will specially deal with revenue matters in the Supreme Court besides other cases, an official release said.
“Every assignment is an opportunity for me and I wish to work hard to discharge my duties,” Tankha said.
A senior advocate since 1999, he has been regularly appearing before the Supreme Court and various high courts throughout the country.
Earlier, he was engaged to appear as a Special Counsel for the Union government in important matters in the Supreme Court and high courts and had also been a Senior Standing Counsel for Income Tax Department between 1991 and 1999.
He has been consulted and engaged by companies in corporate disputes of various types.
Tankha is the first lawyer from Madhya Pradesh to have been appointed additional solicitor general. He had played a major role in resolving disputes between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh after the latter was created in November 2000.
