J-K: Soldier shoots himself with rifle in Samba, suicide suspected

A soldier committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in the garrison town of Samba on Jammu-Pathankot national highway on Thursday morning.

A soldier committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in the garrison town of Samba on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway on Thursday morning.

He was identified as Havildar Kishan Singh Rathore of 24 Grenadiers, a native of Chapra village in Nagpur district of Rajasthan.

“Havildar Kishan Singh Rathore shot himself in the neck with his INSAS rifle at Maheshwar, which has Samba Brigade. He died on the spot," said a police officer

The incident happened around 6.30am, he added.

An army officer confirmed the incident and said that prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide.

The soldier had joined the army in 1997. Army has initiated a court of inquiry.
