Two security personnel were injured after an encounter broke out on Friday between militants and security forces in a village in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

Police, assisted by the army, launched a cordon and search operation at Marseri village in Chowkibal area following specific information about a group of militants hiding in a house, officials said.

Soon after the cordon was established, the search party were attacked by the hiding ultras. The security forces then returned fire, they said. Two security personnel, including an officer, were injured in the gunbattle which took place this afternoon, they said.
