West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has done it again.
On Monday, the Trinamool has tweeted “birthday greetings” to Jagjit Singh. She perhaps forgot that the legendary Gazal singer passed away more than four years ago, in October 2011 after fighting cancer for a few years.
Birthday greetings to Jagjit Singh,Zakir Hussain, Md Azharuddin. And if it is also your birthday today, let me wish you too— Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) February 8, 2016
It was also in 2011 when Banerjee came to power in West Bengal.
Banerjee, who uses Twitter regularly to reach out to people and send birthday greetings, had also wished happy birthday to tabla legend Zakir Hussain and former Indian cricket captain Md. Ahharuddin.
Banerjee’s birthday wishes for Singh, that saw 38 retweets and 47 “likes”, had also left a section of the social media puzzled.
Banerjee, who will be facing her first assembly election as the chief minister of the state in a few months, has been an ardent fan of ghazals. Recently, she had organized a ghazal programme for Pak music maestro Ghulam Ali in Kolkata.
Ali, who faced threats from Shiv Sena and could not peform in Mumbai, found an enthusiastic support in Banerjee and even praised her lavishly.
In another tweet on Monday, Banerjee also wished happy new year to the Chinese community.
Happy New Year to my brothers and sisters from the Chinese community. Wish everyone lots of good luck and happiness— Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) February 8, 2016
