Frozen and beautiful: China’s ice and snow festival

Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival is an annual winter festival that takes place in Harbin, China. It is considered world’s largest ice and snow festival. The festival begins in January first week and continues for a month. The festival originated as the traditional ice lantern show and garden party back in 1963. In this picture, vendors selling candied haws wait for customers at the China Ice and Snow World before the opening ceremony of the festival on January 4, 2016. Over one million visitors are expected to attend the spectacular festival, where buildings of ice are bathed in ethereal lights and international ice sculptors compete for honours. (AFP)
