Jasbir Singh (50), a resident of Bhattian Khurd village under Amargarh police station, has been booked for attempting to murder his wife Balwinder Kaur (45), on a complaint by her nephew Sukhwinder Singh (25), a resident of Bhora Khurd village.

Sukhwinder Singh has alleged in his complaint to the police that a few days ago he had received a message from his aunt Balwinder Kaur that her husband has been ill-treating and even beating her for the past several months and now he has threatened to kill her. He said he visited the house of the couple at Bhattian Khurd on Sunday and tried to sort out the matter between them.

However, he alleged that in the afternoon when he was in the courtyard he heard screams of Balwinder Kaur and saw Jasbir Singh attacking Balwinder with a sharp-edged weapon and shouting that "I will kill you." He said he intervened and saved Balwinder. However, she suffered injuries in the neck and head.

The police have registered a case against Jasbir Singh under sections 307(attempt to murder), 323(voluntarily causing hurt) and 506(criminal intimidation) of IPC.

Inspector and investigation officer Sanjiv Goyal of Amargarh police station said the couple had been married for the past 26 years and Jasbir Singh is a habitual drunkard and whenever Balwinder Kaur asked him to stop drinking he would beat her up. On the day of crime, he was heavily drunk. The police are investigating the matter but no arrest has been made so far.
