SpiceJet started direct flight to Dubai from the holy city on Sunday with a traditional flag-off at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport. The flight will operate on all days except Saturday.
It gives a further boost to Amritsar’s international connectivity after Malaysia’s Malindo Air began flights to Kuala Lumpur from here last month. This is the second flight to operate between Amritsar and Dubai, as Air India Express also flies on this route.
SpiceJet chief administrative officer GP Gupta and airport director Venkateswara Rao presided over the flag-off ceremony on Sunday before 150 passengers took off for the Middle East emirate. SpiceJet’s Boeing 737NG aircraft deployed on this route was greeted with a grand water cannon salute on arriving from Dubai. Addressing the media, the SpiceJet chief administrative officer said: “Dubai is among our most prominent international destinations in demand with provide holidaymakers and business travellers, who will have more travel options coupled with our superior service.”
The airport director thanked SpiceJet for this international flight from Amritsar. “Dubai has always been a favourite destination of travellers from Amritsar. Every year, more passengers from the city fly out there for holiday and business,” he said. Dubai is one of SpiceJet’s six international destinations that include Bangkok, Colombo, Kabul, Male (Maldives), and Muscat.
