Three men tie dog to tree, gouge its eye out in Mohali; arrested

Police have arrested three residents of Raipur Khurd village in SAS Nagar (Mohali) for tying a stray female dog to a tree, thrashing her and then gauging out her eyeball. The accused have been identified as Harmeet Singh, Makhan and Dassa Singh. The incident took place on October 11.

“The accused have been booked under Sections 428 (killing or maiming animal) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC,” said Sohana station house officer (SHO) Rajiv Kumar.

The police registered the case on the complaint of Pradeep Singh, a resident of the village, who witnessed the incident.

The dog, which is pregnant, is being treated at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Hospital, Sector 38 (West), Chandigarh. Pradeep Singh said, “On October 11 morning, I heard screams of a dog and saw the accused assaulting the animal.” He alleged that the trio had killed a dog a few months ago also. He told the police that the accused rear pigs and sell meat.
