A 24-year-old forlorn woman on Thursday evening stabbed a married man with sharp- edged weapon after he rejected her marriage proposal.Before stabbing him, the woman, Sonia, a resident of Guru Nank Nagar, took lift in the pick-up auto of the victim identified as 25-year-old Varinder Singh, of Azad Nagar.
Varinder, who works with a courier company, suffered injuries on his neck. He has been discharged from the hospital after administrating treatment.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gurcharan Singh, who is investigating the matter, said, “The woman was in relationship with a man named Sooraj of Patiala. Sonia met Varinder through Sooraj.”
“Varinder Singh in his statement told that Sooraj had snapped ties with Sonia for some reasons. He told that on Thursday evening, when he was going to deliver courier packets in his pick-up auto, Sonia asked for lift in the vehicle. When they reached near Cheema Chowk, Sonia proposed him to marry her after divorcing his wife. Varinder stated that when he rejected her proposal, she stabbed thrice in his neck with a sharp-edged weapon and fled,” the ASI said.
The ASI said, “Police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused woman. Division Number 6 police have registered a case under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the woman.”
