Presenting their personal interpretations of the world’s faith and spirituality are four photographers in the city who have come together for an exhibition titled, Eternal Faith.
The exhibition, which puts forward the works of the photographers — Ravi Dhingra, Kabeer Lal, Sanjay Nanda and Udit Kulshrestha, portrays their personal journeys, in order to understand the human and holy spirit.
“Through my photographs, I have tried to capture the moments that we see in our day to day lives. Though these are more of discarded things, they still have faith attached to them,” says Dhingra, whose images are filled with contrasting realities, which, interestingly enough, don’t have any conflict with each other and bring out a serenity that reflects inner peace and faith.
For Lal, faith is photography. “Faith for me is in whatever I do. It’s a lot about first exploring myself and then exploring the world through my lens,” says Lal, whose works feature the masjids of Old Delhi, the steps of Haridwar and the ghats of Varanasi. “My images seek to capture the soul of spirituality, the heart of mysticism and the essence of divinity through the lens of religion and belief,” he adds.
Kulshrestha’s photographs map a journey of five years. “Five years back, I began this journey while I was looking for inner peace. I was an atheist, so I went to places of worship, just to see what people do there. It was then that I realised that these things were way beyond our perception,” he says. His photographs revolve around various aspects of Hinduism and subjects such as sacred offerings, rituals, festivals and renunciation, among others.

{{/usCountry}}While exploring faith from the point of view of an outsider and a non-believer, Nanda came up with photographs that are based on religious symbolism. “Faith is the belief in a statement. This belief doesn’t rest on any logical proof or material evidence,” he says. His works are characterised by the use of symbols, including archetypes, artwork, events, or natural phenomena, by religion.
