Back in 2001, a Hollywood movie caught the imagination of a large number of Indians, all because of the inclusion of the Bollywood song, 'Chamma chamma' from the movie China Gate (1998). Moulin Rouge, directed by Baz Luhrmann, went on to become a hit internationally and even won two Oscars out of the eight that it was nominated for. Now comes the news that Moulin Rouge will soon be back in India, not on celluloid, but on stage.

French hospitality chain Accor will bring 17 dancers from the famed Paris cabaret for an hour-long performance in Mumbai (Sofitel, BKC) and Delhi (Pullman, Gurgaon Central Park) on October 31 and November 2, respectively. The performances will be a part of the brand's World of Accor promotions, which conclude in India.

The event will be by invitation only and will have the two cities' society elite in attendance. The performances aim to celebrate the ties that France and India share and build the hospitality brand's portfolio in the country. Says Jean-Michel Casse, senior vice-president, operations, Accor India, "The two events will celebrate the friendship between India and France, and promote the exceptional tourism opportunities that both the Moulin Rouge and our brand have to offer." Unlike the movie, the India performances won't have a Bollywood angle, which would have given the event a wider reach.

He adds, "We feel it will be an entirely new experience for our guests to watch them perform in India. We would like to offer our Indian viewers a pure French extravaganza."
