The original celebration of Indian rock shifts to October from March this year on. The Great Indian Rock (GIR) festival, now in its thirteenth year, will be held today and tomorrow at Hamsadhawani Auditorium, Pragati Maidan. The two-day fest will feature a spectrum of rock genres through top Indian acts.
If you’re tuned in to current Indian rock, then the names should be enough. Else, this is the right place for an
introduction — thousands of screaming fans packed in an open air auditorium where you can also pick up music merchandise.
Performers include Rabbit Is Rich, The Circus and Undying INC today, and Boomarang, Another Vertigo Rush, Bhayanak Maut, Indigo Children and Scribe tomorrow. Three headline acts include Benea Reach (Progressive metal/Mathcore, Norway) and Solstate (Hard Rock/Metal, New Zealand) who perform today, and Intronaut (Psychedelic meets Hard Rock, USA) will do their thing tomorrow. While the headlines are about hard-hitting riffs, the band from Kiwi-land features the very talented Zorran Mendonsa (of the erstwhile Zero fame) on guitar.
The fest will also get a delegation of Norwegian music industry professionals who’ll scout for Indian talent.
