The 40 images on display at the two-day photography exhibition by Child Rights and You (CRY) in the city, should provide enough incentive for those seeking motivation to stand up for children’s rights. Clicked by citizen journalists and volunteers across five metro cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai — the photos portray the challenges faced by thousands of children while accessing their right to education.

“We will be showcasing 40 photographs from Mumbai at our exhibition in the city, as part of the Click Rights campaign. These photographs, shot at various government schools, expose the lack of basic infrastructure and facilities,” says Kreeanne Rabadi, regional director, CRY.

Citizen journalists and volunteers from the metros sent in more than 500 photographs. Some of the images that moved the photographers showed dimly-lit classrooms, broken chairs and benches, children cramped in a single classroom or sitting on the floor, and the use of playgrounds and classrooms to store construction materials. A picture from Hyderabad even showed garbage dumped right outside a school gate. The selected shots are now being displayed at various public places in each of the five cities.

“We encourage people to be child rights advocates and continue uploading photographs on

. They will be included in a petition that we will send to government representatives,” says Rabadi.
