Next time the wanderlust bug bites you, here’s a vacation where you can learn and explore without enhancing your carbon footprint. A new artiste residency programme in Raigad, 1,200 feet above sea level, offers green crusaders a chance to create as they unwind on the 70-acre grounds.

Serenity Villas, a community of rustic villas created using environmentally-friendly construction techniques and earth-friendly materials is hosting the Mahagaon Terra Project. “I’ve been involved in developing properties for a while now. We thought of this art ‘land project’ about six months ago, hoping to spread awareness about art in nature,” says Parth Timbadia, director, La Tim Lifestyle and Resorts.

The team received over 70 entries, of which they handpicked seven from India, Switzerland, Canada, France and Poland. At the villas, the artistes in residency will create works using locally sourced materials such as bamboo, stone, wood, wires, glass bottles and unearthed soil. Timbadia adds, “It’s sort of a recycling project, so you can find mammoth installations made from waste twigs or fallen wood.”

To register for Mahagaon Terra Project workshops on November 26-27 or December 3-4, log on to
