Youngsters who have a passion for photography, painting, sculpting, and designing often search for a good platform where they can display their talent. A Delhi-based group, started by Barnita Halder, 20, and Archie Misra, 20, claims to provide one such platform for people who want to showcase their skills in any creative art form.
For Halder and Misra, this group, called Zarah, is more of a rebellious movement, as they felt that not many places in the city encourage new talent, due to which many young talented individuals go unnoticed. “It originated from individual frustration. I was pursuing my B Tech that time, and being a photographer, I was trying to break into exhibitions and galleries for a while. But, they wouldn’t let me exhibit my work. So, me and Halder got together to form this group,” says Misra, adding, “Since then, there has been no looking back and we have more members to support us.”
Though Zarah held its first exhibition titled Srishti in 2011, people had apprehensions regarding it. “Lots of people asked many questions and doubted our credibility. For example, there was this one girl who had come to submit her painting. But when she looked at us, she said that we were too young, and left without making her submission,” says Misra. But the group still managed to get 13 photographers and 12 painters on board through social networking and word of mouth.
This year, too, the group is planning an exhibition called Tatva India in the month of August, which will take place at Hauz Khas Village. “We would love to have sketchers, sculptors and digital artists,” says Misra. “There is no age limit for participation, but the entries must stick to the theme of the exhibition, which is tatva (elements). The six elements are agni (fire), the bubbly effervescence of jal (water), the calm and essential vayu (wind), the omnipotent and omnipresent prithvi (Earth), the benefactor of light, which is chaya (shadow), and the atom of all creation — arth (spirit).” adds Halder.
