As Hollywood turns 100 this year, photographers are paying the industry a rich tribute with a collection of rare images clicked over almost six decades, by some of the world’s most renowned photographers.

As Hollywood turns 100 this year, photographers are paying the industry a rich tribute with a collection of rare images clicked over almost six decades, by some of the world’s most renowned photographers. Now it is Mumbai’s turn to play host to At the Movies — Magnum Ke Tasveer, an exhibition of images that have have earlier been displayed across the world, including New Delhi and Kolkata.

Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor are among the many faces of Hollywood captured by the lensmen of Magnum, one of the oldest existing photographic co-operatives. Late Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray, who was clicked by Marc Riboud, is also featured.

The selection of images for the Mumbai show, however, is slightly different from those displayed the world over.

“As opposed to Western countries, Indians aren’t that familiar with these films. We’ve chosen 40 images from over 1,500 in the archives. They are of the more iconic actors and films, and will have better recall value here,” says Abhishek Poddar, Partner at Tasveer Arts, who are presenting the exhibiition in India. But the exhibition is not only about Hollywood. “At the Movies represents world cinema. It includes countries like Italy, France and even Iran,” says Poddar, adding that the Satyajit Ray picture is among his favourites. “I love the Audrey Hepburn pictures as well,” he adds.
