In self-imposed exile for the past 13 years due to threats from Hindu fundamentalists, legendary artist MF Husain’s urge to return home is just getting stronger. “I have three projects in hand, after completing which I will come back to my country. I love my country and its people,” said Husain talking to HT City over phone from New York.

The ace painter, who has a fetish for painting Bollywood beauties, is now ready to put down two of his muses, Madhuri Dixit and Amrita Rao, on one canvas. “I am painting Madhuri and Amrita on the same canvas, and it’s in process. Once I reach Dubai I will give it a final touch up,” he informed. His other work is the ‘Voyage of Discovery’, which Husain said will reflect “the 60-70 years of his experience”.

Another thing that is keeping Husain busy is his next film. Penned by the painter himself, the project marks the directorial debut of his younger son Owais Husain. “It’s an emotional story of a city girl and a village boy and how they find love between themselves. It is shot in Chandigarh and I’m also producing it. The cast is completely new and National Award-winning cinematographer Santosh Sivan is handling the camerawork,” he said.
