It’s a proud moment for Delhi’s art circuit as Mumbai’s Sakshi art gallery chooses to celebrate its 25th anniversary in the Capital instead of its home town. Following the wave of mix media art works, the show brings in some of the best Indian and International artists working on completely new art pieces for the exhibition titled ‘Scratch’.

Talking about the show, Swapan Seth, the curator, who is also an art collector and advertising professional, says, “I am inspired by what Ed Ruscha said, ‘If it makes you scratch your head, it is art’. And thus the exhibition was named Scratch.”

Centred around the immediate history of the decade that we have just lived through, the anniversary show comprises 32 new generation artists from India, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, the USA, Nigeria and Cuba. The artists have worked with mediums as diverse as digital art, fibreglass, natural feathers, gold enamel, resin, plastic bags, clay and papier mache, resulting in sound installations, video work, floor installations, photographs and the basic canvas.

“The theme of the exhibition revolves around scale and so does all the art pieces. Another unique feature that the show demonstrates is that 30 percent of the participating artists are not part of the gallery, but those artists who take pride in exhibiting in Sakshi’s silver jubilee celebration,” adds Seth.

It is also a moment to cherish for gallery-owner Geetha Misra. Summing on the journey, she has has been into this job for 25 years. Misra says, “I live in the present. Past is done and finished and I don’t think for the future. Right now, I am just focused on my

present exhibition.”

The exhibition starts today at Lalit Kala Akademi and is on till November 19.
