The city’s most buzzing inter-collegiate festival, Malhar, is just around the corner. Beginning August 13, the three-day festival at St Xavier’s College will introduce new events and revive old favourites. One of them, back by popular demand, is Amateur Night, which encourages young musicians to take to the stage.
Says Ankiti Bose, chairperson, Malhar 2011, “We plan to bring back Amateur Night this year as it used to be quite a popular event and gives young amateur musicians an opportunity to play in front of a large crowd. Also since other colleges mostly haveprofessional nights, where established bands are called in to perform, the idea of Amateur Night, where young, aspiring talents get a platform to perform, seems novel.”
Bands and musicians can take part in the auditions, that will take place between July 31 to August 2. The festival is also doing its bit for society this year by hosting events like Chaka-Chak to clean up Mumbai beaches, a B-boying crash course for children and Triathlon, a multi-sports event to support NGOs. It is also hosting World Wide Wakening, where contingents are invited to create awareness campaigns for a social issue of their choice.
