Despite a cold wave sweeping across Punjab, voters started queueing up outside polling stations in impressive numbers right from the start of the polling at 8 am.
In 2012 Punjab assembly elections, the overall voter turnout was recorded as 78%.
As per the election commission website, by 8pm, 75% of Punjab’s nearly 2 crore electors had cast their vote across over 22,000 polling stations in the state.
Among the constituencies, Mansa recorded the highest voter turnout of 85% till 8pm.

Sangrur was a close second with 83% voter turnout till 8pm.
In Doaba, which accounts for 23 seats in the 117 seat assembly, polling is taking place smoothly with reports of heavy polling in rural areas in the first two hours.

So far, polling across the state has been peaceful.
