At least 20 activists barged into a district court in Bhopal on Monday to stop a girl's marriage, alleging that she was a victim of 'love jihad'. However, girl Reena Ueke, 22, dismissed their claim and told the police that she wanted to marry Shoaib Khan, 25, on her own and had gone to meet the notary in this regard.

The girl, resident of Narsighpur district, about 350 km from Bhopal, is a bachelor of engineering (BE) whereas the boy is Class 12 pass. He works as a cooler mechanic.

Earlier, the police rushed to the court and escorted the couple to MP Nagar police station for their safety after the Sanskriti Bachao Manch activists thronged the notary office. SP (South) Anshuman Singh said the police had taken the couple to the police station as a safety measure and record their statements.

However, the Hindu activists reached the police station also and created a ruckus there. Manch leader Chandra Shekhar Tiwari alleged that the boy had lured the girl into marrying him and wanted to convert her into Islam. He even claimed that the girl's parents had lodged a complaint with the police in Narsingpur district that the girl had gone missing a week ago.
