Madhya Pradesh chief secretary Anthony de Sa’s not leaving the secretariat when the building was evacuated after earthquake tremors were felt here set the tongues wagging in the secretariat.
After the siren screaming when chief minister, his ministerial colleagues and almost all the officials and employees vacated the building, the CS chose to stay put ignoring the request of the security personnel causing a panic among them.
Some officers said the CS was holding a meeting with some officers. Hence, when he refused to leave the building the officers too had to stay put.
"Being chief secretary he should have been the first to respond to our request, said a security officer on the condition of anonymity.
When contacted the chief secretary said there was no meeting, but he was having a discussion with two officers.
They simply didn’t move because they didn’t feel the tremors.
"Of course, I didn’t leave the building as I had to make many phone calls to commissioners and collectors and find out if there was any problem in the state. Had there been any problem I would have contacted the emergency teams. Hence, I had to take the risk of being here and fulfill my responsibilities", added the chief secretary.
