While some people are going for curries, others are preparing vegetables in different gravies as a substitute for the expensive dal (pulse).

“I have stopped preparing dal daily in lunch and dinner. I prepare vegetables with gravy. I know it will not fulfil the need of nutrition which dal provides, but for the time being we have to find a substitute,” says Milan Pandey, resident of Sterling Enclave. She added the rise in price of pulses has affected her monthly budget.

Rashmi Yadav, a resident of Kolar and teacher by profession, said she prepares dal once in a day either for lunch or for dinner nowadays.

“I prefer to cook other varieties of dal too and avoid more consumption of expensive dals. I have also started cooking other options like soya nuggets and vegetable kofta with gravy these days,” she said.

Savita Yadav, a housewife form New Market area, said she has now started adding those vegetables in her menu which she used to cook rarely.

The residents feel the government should do something to overcome the situation.

“The stock seized by the government should be supplied to markets as soon as possible to bring relief to the middle class families of the city,” suggested Pandey.
