Several students gathered outside the institute’s guesthouse on Thursday and staged a huge demonstration demanding that the ousted faculty members be reinstated immediately.

Students also handed over a memorandum to the BoG chairperson Geetha Bali in the matter.

Earlier, a section teachers had submitted a complaint with Bali against director Appu Kuttan.

In their complaint the teachers maintained that while in other NITs, teachers were allowed to use the cumulative development funds, but in MANIT the director did not allow anyone to use the fund for development or academic excellence.

According to the norms, the ministry of human resource development provides Rs3 lakh to each faculty for at least one overseas seminar in three years.

Teachers alleged that the institute had used the money on construction work on the campus.

One of the teachers, reportedly, informed Bali that Kuttan had given a six-month extension to some PhD candidates to complete their thesis against the rules.

Bali asked teachers to lodge the complaint in black and white and assured them of taking required action in this regard.

When approached, Kuttan, however, rubbished the claims and said that he always followed rules and regulations and never violated any rule.
