Burglars strike six houses at Katara

Burglars struck at nearly half-a-dozen places at Katara Hills on the night intervening Saturday and Sunday. At three places, the thieves succeeded in taking away valuables while at remaining places they had to run away after the family members got up during the burglary bid.

Foreign students living on rent at two places also lost valuables in the thefts. In the first incident,house of Nitika Rai, a resident of Katara Hills, and made away with cash and jewellery.

In her complainant, she reported that around R34,000 cash and jewellery was stolen besides a cellphone from the house. The other theft occurred in a nearby house in the same area.

Tom, a youth hailing from Kenya, reported that around R20,000 cash was stolen from the house.

He lives on rent in the house. The third incident occurred at the house of Shakti Singh where two girls, also from Uganda, live. Cash was stolen from this house as well.

The thieves also ate ice cream and emptied the cold drink bottles kept in the house. Besides, the thieves attempted to break into the house of Mahendra Pathak’s junior HIG residence.

After the series of thefts and burglary bids, the police rushed to the spot.

However, the burglars couldn’t be caught. The police have registered a case in this regard. Earlier, there was a similar strike at several houses in Govindpura in one night, just a few days ago.

The senior range officials have directed policemen to intensify patrolling at night in view of the spate of thefts in the state capital.

However, there has been no letup in the incidents across the city.
