Out of 1.7 lakh candidates who took the test from across the country, only 16 students scored 100 percentile, making them top scorers of the examination.

Also, out of the 16 top scorers, only one candidate is a female, said Rohit Kapoor, CAT coordinator of IIM-Indore. He added that other details of the result would be available later.

He further said one candidate from Indore is said to be among the top 16 scorers of the CAT 2014. However, the name of the candidate couldn’t be confirmed till the filing of this report.

Last year eight students had managed to score 100 percentile. Ten people had scored in the 99.99 percentile bracket, including a girl. The result was declared around 7pm, but the suspense prevailed till late night as the CAT result website (www.iimcat.ac.in) crashed. Eager candidates across the state kept visiting the website to know their results, but were disappointed due to the technical trouble.

There had also been a change in the exam pattern. This year there were 50 questions in each section — quantitative aptitude and data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning.

The duration of the exam was also increased to 170 minutes from 140 minutes.
