Two college students were found hanging dead in their houses located in close proximity to each other in Nagod area of Satna district on Sunday morning.

The students were identified as 20-year-old Rashmi Verma and 21-year-old Vineet Verma.

The Nagod police suspect that a love affair between the two students could have triggered the suicide.

Around 6 am, Rashmi’s body was discovered from her room in her house. Just an hour and half later, Vineet’s body was also found hanging in his house.

According to Nagod police sub-inspector Rajendra Tiwari, investigations suggest that after coming to know about Rashmi’s suicide, Vineet also ended his life in a similar manner in his house.

“Though the statements of the two families are yet to be recorded, primary probe points that a possible love affair between Rashmi and Vineet could be behind the prima facie suicide case,” said Tiwari.

No suicide note, however, was found from either of the two houses.

The twin suicide happened within a month from the suspected honour killing of a 17-year-old Brahmin girl Chetna Gautam and her 24-year-old Kshatriya lover Bhupat Singh Tomar.

The duo was shot dead in Pavaiya village in Kothar area of Satna district on April 11.
