MP Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan on Sunday attacked the Congress saying that the party cheated the people of the country by making promises it had no intention of keeping.

He made these remarks during campaigning for the BJP in Chhindwara for the upcoming municipal elections.

He said the people trusted the Congress for many years because it was the party of Mahatma Gandhi but they have completely given up on it.

Speaking at a public meeting at Patli, Chauhan said the fortunes of Madhya Pradesh changed after 2003 when the BJP came to power.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan being the son of a farmer launched numerous schemes for the people aimed at removing poverty.

Congress on the other hand had only given the slogan of 'garibi hatao' but it ended up removing the gareeb.

Chauhan said the BJP had brought development in the state whereas the Congress' politics was about giving a slogan for development.
