The woman had earlier made a complaint against Singh, the brother of BJP MLA Dhruv Narayan Singh. When the FIR was not registered, she approached the court.

"When the court asked the police to take action in this regard, I again went to Mahila police station to record my statement. In the police station, one woman police personnel (sub-inspector rank) hit me with a cane," the complainant told the media on Thursday.

"I was abused and told that no FIR would be registered here. Also, I was threatened of dire consequences if I take names of influential persons. Earlier also, I was treated in the same manner," she said.

"I then complained to IG about the incident," she added. The complainant said she is now being defamed after she refused money to withdraw complaint. The woman said the incident had occurred in September last year and apart from Singh; she has accused another person Saeed Khan. Her lawyer Wahid Khan said the Supreme Court has ordered that the investigation should start only after registration of an FIR. However in this case, the police were not registering FIR, the lawyer said.

"We will inform the court about the incident."

Women cell to take action
Additional director general of police Vijay Yadav confirmed that the complainant had come to him.

"I have forwarded it to the officer concerned with the crime against women cell for further action," he said.

Baseless complaint
Meanwhile, Ashok Singh's lawyer Pramod Saxena said the complaint was baseless. He alleged that it was an attempt to defame his client.

Saxena said it seems a gang was aiming at extorting Singh. Saxena handed over a letter written by Singh (addressed to MP Nagar police station incharge) in which he mentions that he was suffering from a spine-related ailment and was in hospital at the time when he is being accused of rape.

The letter further says it is an attempt to defame his family which has a social-standing because of political links.
