A 14-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped and then brutally murdered inside her house in a village of Rewa district.
The episode came to light when the class 6 student’s naked body was spotted by villagers around 200 metres from her house in Bandi village at around 8am on Friday.
“Circumstantial evidence suggests that the girl was first raped and then brutally murdered by the accused with the help of a heavy object inside her house. A case of rape and murder under Sections 376 and 302 of IPC, besides provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 has been lodged against unidentified accused,” Gurh police station in-charge Nagendra Singh told Hindustan Times.
The girl was alone in the house on Thursday as her parents had gone to a village 25 km from Bandi to attend a marriage on Wednesday.
“On Wednesday, the girl had told parents that she didn’t want to go for the marriage and stayed back alone in the house. It is suspected that taking advantage of absence of her family members, the accused entered the house and committed the crime,” he said.
While the findings of the autopsy are yet not out, close examination of the body revealed at least two wounds on her head with some heavy object, possibly a cricket bat which has been seized by the police from her house.
