Engineering student shoots self with father’s gun in Bhopal

A 19-year-old engineering student died in a hospital on Friday after he attempted suicide early in the day. However, the hospital did not confirm the boy’s death till the filing of this report.

A 19-year-old engineering student died in a hospital on Friday after he attempted suicide early in the day. However, the hospital did not confirm the boy’s death till the filing of this report.

Shooting himself in the head with his father’s service revolver, the allegedly died during treatment, said the superintendent of police, South, Anshuman Singh. A resident of Tulsi Nagar, Sameer Kamble, a first-year engineering student at a private college, attempted suicide as he was supposed to sit for his semester exam on Saturday, said sources.

The police, however, said the actual reason behind the suicide bid could not be ascertained.

Before attempting suicide, Sameer dropped his mother Aparna Kamble, a teacher, outside her school returned home. Then he went to bathroom, telling his father, Rajesh Kamble, a sub-inspector with the state Anti-Terrorist Squad, that he would take bath and later sit study, the police said.

His father, who had gone out of town for 10 days for an investigation had returned home at 3.30 am. Sources further said he might have taken his father’s revolver from the cupboard before going to the bathroom. On hearing gunshots, his father rushed to the bathroom and saw his son lying on the floor.

“Sameer had sustained injuries in the head. Nothing that can help us to ascertain the reason for suicide could be recovered,” the SP added.
