Thieves struck at a sanitaryware shop in MP Nagar Zone II and fled with articles worth about Rs. 5 lakh, police said here on Monday. The theft possibly occurred Saturday night, but Sunday being a holiday, the trader noticed the theft on Monday, when he opened the shop.
According to shop owner Pramod Kumar Jain, police took 10 hours to lodge the FIR on Monday night after much scepticism and being compelled to come to the police station several times to face questions.
Jain told HT the thieves had targetted his shop earlier too three to four times. They stole goods worth Rs. 1 lakh or two earlier, but this time they stole goods worth Rs. 5 lakh. In previous cases of theft, police did nothing to track down the criminals. He said in view of Diwali festival there was a fresh stock of sanitaryware items made of brass and other metals which were costly items. The thieves who had idea about the supply of these items decamped with such items.
He said since Sunday was weekly closure day of the market he went to the market on Monday to find that the thieves had struck his shop. He said the police lodged the FIR only after seeing the previous FIRs he had lodged and that too after a lot of questioning by the TI and other police cops.
