Bharatiya Janshakti Party President Uma Bharti on Thursday attributed the coal crisis in Madhya Pradesh to the state government's "immaturity", "lack of foresightedness" and "irresponsible attitude" towards looming power crisis in the state.
Bharti, former chief minister of the state, demanded a white paper on the allotment of a coal block to a private company and on the issue of purchase of power.
"The coal block at Markua mines in Singrauli district was awarded to JP Associates by the state government for producing 1300 MW of power. That block alone is capable of meeting Madhya Pradesh's thermal power plants requirement if the state government could have handed over it to Coal India Limited (CIL) for extracting coal," Bharti told reporters in Bhopal.
Bharti, also former Union coal minister, also demanded white paper on the issue of allotment of Markua coal mines to JP Associates, on what rate (per unit) the state government is purchasing the power on ad-hoc basis and how it got defaulter on the issue of payment to the coal companies.
She said that the coal crisis in the state was due to the state government's failure to lift its allocated quota and also because it has defaulted on the payment of coal.
