Warning for 'heavy to very heavy' rainfall for parts of southwest MP continues with a weather system still active over Madhya Pradesh. However, the rain intensity is likely to decrease from Friday onwards although showers would continue, the MeT office has said.
On Thursday while many parts of state continued to receive rainfall, capital Bhopal experienced partially sunny conditions with no rainfall.
An upper air circulation system is prevailing over Hoshangabad in central MP, causing incursion of lot of moisture from Arabian Sea. The MeT office has said that this would lead to continuation of heavy to very heavy showers in isolated parts of Indore and Hoshangabad divisions during the next 24 hours (till morning of Thursday).
Harda district, where the twin train derailment occurred, falls under Hoshangabad divisions. Similar warning has been issued for Ratlam, Dewas and Ujjain districts.
Also heavy rainfall can occur in parts of Jabalpur division, Dindori, Raisen and Sehore districts.
The current spell of heavy rainfall started in the state three days ago under influence of a weather system that developed in the Bay of Bengal in form of a deep depression and later moved to MP.
During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Wednesday, Khandwa and Khirakia received 29cm of rainfall each. Sonkutch received 23cm, Depalpur - 21cm, Nepanagar and Harsud - 20cm of rainfall each (see box).
