Mahendra Morya, the defence lawyer of accused Manoj Gurjar, revealed that during the hearing, Dev said in the month of February his son told him about illegal mining going on in the area and how police were also involved in it.

Dev said his son told him that his seniors had asked him to seize five trolleys involved in illegal mining daily, but whenever he tried to raid the site somebody in his department leaked the information. Even the then police station in-charge and staff did not co-operate with him against the mining mafia and told him that they have family responsibilities, the officer's father told the court.

Narendra Kumar even informed his father that a particular constable used to leak information and whenever he seized illegally mined stones, his TI and other staffers released the accused without informing him. The said constable was deputed at the same police station for the past five years and used to take money from illegal miners, said Morya quoting Dev.

The 30-year-old IPS officer, posted at Banmore town in Morena district, was killed while trying to stop a tractor-trolley carrying illegal stones.
