Maharashtra minister's son, 4 others held for assault

Five people including the son of a Maharashtra minister were arrested in Hoshangabad today for allegedly assaulting the staff at a toll tax plaza and beating up a forest official recently. HT reports.

Five people including the son of a Maharashtra minister were arrested in Hoshangabad on Thursday for allegedly assaulting the staff at a toll tax plaza and beating up a forest official recently.

Kunal Raut, 25, son of Maharashtra minister Nitin Raut, was arrested for thrashing the employees at the toll plaza at Denva river. Raut and his four companions were caught when they were travelling in a car.

Police sources said they had beaten up the toll plaza employees and a forest official after an argument when they were on their way to Pachmarhi. The incident had occurred on the night intervening Tuesday and Wednesday. However, on their way back, the car was again spotted and the police were informed. The five car-borne people were caught. The four-wheeler carried a sticker of the Maharashtra Assembly.

Inspector General of Police (IG) Hoshangabad range Ajay Sharma said a case was registered against five people for roughing up the toll plaza staff. "They have been arrested," said Sharma.

Initially, toll plaza employee Bablu Rajawat was beaten up. Others who rushed to his succour including deputy ranger Ejaz Khan and Ramesh were also assaulted. After the scuffle, the car-borne youngsters sped off. However, on their way back on Thursday, they were caught.

All the five have been booked for assault and criminal intimidation. The accused were also charged with obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty. The case has been registered at Piparia police station. Kunal Raut's father is a Congress leader and MLA. Right now, he is minister for MNREGS in Maharashtra government.
