A farmer committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at his farm at Tagadi village in Sagar on Wednesday. Suresh Yadav was allegedly upset after his crop was destroyed due to erratic and insufficient rains.
According to Ram Singh Yadav, elder brother of the deceased, Suresh had sown Kharif crop on his six-acre land and on another ten acre land, which he had taken on contract.
Suresh had taken loans for the treatment of his wife, who was suffering from kidney ailment.
However, his wife died in March.
Suresh was upset after he received a notice from the bank for loan repayment, Yadav added.Suresh was also under pressure from the moneylender. The total loan amount was around Rs 5 lakh.
Meanwhile, in another case the family members of farmer Imrat Patel of Gondai village in Sagar, who had committed suicide due to crop loss, met collector AK Singh, seeking financial support.
The family, however, got no assistance from the collector, who cited rules and regulations to turn down their plea.
BJP’s Banda MLA Harvansh Rathore, under whose constituency the village Gondai falls, gave Rs 5000 to the family and pledged to bear education and marriage expenses of the farmer’s elder daughter.

Collector AK Singh said, “The deceased farmer’s family came with some AAP men and demanded help, to which I told that they will receive help and crop compensation after survey, according to government rules and regulations.”
AAP district convener Dhanendra Jain said, “Our party is operating ‘Sathi Hath Badana”, a programme to help families of the deceased farmers. Today, we reached the Collector’s office with Patel’s family. However, the collector did not give any assurance.”
Debt-ridden farmer’s son commits suicide in Bhind
A 22-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself at Kishan Ki Gadhiya under Umri police station limits in Bhind late night on Wednesday.
Police sources say Keshav had sown bajra in three bighas of his land but faced crop loss due to scant rainfall. Moreover, he had to take loan for his daughter’s marriage.
Ajmer, a labourer working outside the district, was depressed because of poor financial condition of his family and committed suicide on Wednesday. Police have registered a death case and started an investigation.
