A day after Muslim clerics in MP issued a fatwa against the government’s plan for a record-breaking Surya Namaskar attempt, the government claimed more than one crore citizens including over 50 lakh students would participate in mass Surya Namaskar on Thursday.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will participate in the programme at Naveen Higher Secondary School in Bhopal. According to the district education officer CM Upadhyaya, minister for urban administration Babulal Gaur will attend the programme at Mahatma Gandhi Higher Secondary School, BHEL, whereas Mayor Krishna Gaur will go to Girls School Barkhedi.
Similarly, ministers, MPs, MLAs, presidents of Zilla Panchayats, mayors, other elected representatives, voluntary organisations’ representatives and the masses will take part in the programme. School education minister Archana Chitnis said largescale participation has been mobilised this year through special efforts.
The programme will be held at all the government and private educational institutions, Ashram Shalas and panchayats across the state. Students of Class 5 to 12 will take part in the mass Surya Namaskar programme. Girls will wear salwar-suit or tracksuit and students can participate in the programme wearing school uniform or tracksuit. Meanwhile, large-scale preparations are going on for mass Surya Namaskar in all the districts of the state.
