Madhya Pradesh high court on Thursday served notices on the state government and commissioner, Bhopal Municipal Corporation on a petition filed by actress Sharmila Tagore for removal of encroachments from her land in a village in Bhopal district. The court also served notices on the district collector Bhopal and the respondent Chand Khan.
Actress Sharmila Tagore is the wife of late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, heir of the Nawab of Bhopal. A portion of land measuring 6.28 hectares owned by her in village Koh-e-Fiza, Khanugaon has been allegedly encroached upon.
Chand Khan recently started unauthorised constructions on 15,000 square feet of land on a portion of 6.28 hectares owned by the petitioner, Tagore’s lawyer Rajesh Pancholi told the court. The 6.28 hectare land adjoins Bada Talab (Upper Lake) in Bhopal.
Due to apathy of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation and the revenue authorities the respondent is carrying construction without any fear as the land is in a prime location, Pancholi said.
The priority of the state is to prevent Bada Talab from getting further polluted and passed an order recently to prevent construction within 50 metres from the lake, which was extended to 300 metres on directive of the National Green Tribunal, the petition said.
The construction carried out by Khan is damaging the greenery and natural habitat of several bird species and wild animals, the petition claimed.
