Mishra submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

A complaint was lodged against several relatives of Mishra in connection with violence at Belagaon village on the outskirts of Gwalior over a piece of land. One person was killed in the violence. The land in question is adjacent to the engineering college that Mishra’s family runs. There was a dispute with the villagers regarding this.

Party sources say BJP chief Nitin Gadkari talked to Mishra on the matter on Friday morning. After the talk, Mishra went to meet Chouhan. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra accompanied the health minister.

Subsequently, Anoop Mishra sent his resignation letter, stating that he was stepping down from his post on “moral grounds under the present circumstances”.

The letter further said he wished to step down so that he could get his family justice. “It’s also imperative that everything is clear and transparent (in public life).”

Despite attempts, Anoop Mishra could not be contacted.
