A Class 9 student helped the police crack the September 11 murder and alleged rape and murder of his 32-year-old female tutor Sunita Sharma Prajapati in Rampur Baghelan area of MP’s Satna district.

The murder accused - 32-year-old Arun Yadav - a resident of Mangawan in Rewa district is a close relative of the 16-year-old teenager who helped police crack the case.

The incident took place on the intervening night of September 11-12 when Yadav, who was well known to Sunita, barged into her house where two of her students aged 16 and 12 years were sleeping in one of the rooms, police said.

He first tied the two children with ropes and then allegedly raped the woman with whom he allegedly had illicit relations in the past. Subsequently he attacked Sunita with a rod before strangulating her.

The entire incident took place before the two children, who used to get tuitions from Sunita and often slept at her house at night in Bahelia Bhat village.

Police launched a manhunt for the accused and arrested him from Satna district on Wednesday.

“The accused has been booked for murder, rape and wrongful confinement,” Dwivedi said.

Yadav’s preliminary interrogation revealed that he was planning to kill Sunita since the time she refused to have sexual relations with him from Holi this year.

The deceased had twice married in the 15 years - first with a man in Sogahpur area of Shahdol district and later with an employee of an insurance company in Rewa district.
