A retired deputy general manager (DGM) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence in Alkapuri in Bagh Sewania, the police said on Friday. His body was discovered in a decomposed state on Thursday.
The deceased, MP Agarwal (59), had sought voluntary retirement from service and lived alone in the house here. Agarwal left behind a handwritten suicide note dated March 26. Sub divisional officer of police (SDOP) Sarika Shukla said that the suicide note mentions that he was under depression because of property-related issues. "The body appears around 36-48 hours old and was in a decomposed state," she added.
"It is written in the letter that his property in Indore had been sold off by his brothers-in-law and they were eyeing his house here also", she said. "His brother tried to call him on Holi, but he didn't respond. On Thursday, the police went to the house and found him dead," the SDOP added.
BHEL spokesperson Vinodanand Jha said that Agarwal's VRS application was approved this month. The former DGM had separated from his wife who lives in Indore. His children, a son and a daughter, are married and are settled in the US and Bengaluru respectively. The police tried to call them, but got no response. The deceased's elder brother, who also lives in Bhopal, had visited Agarwal before Holi and on that day the retired DGM had hinted that he was depressed.

{{/usCountry}}Later, when he came visiting on Thursday and found the door shut from within and no response, he informed the police.
When the police entered the house, they found Agarwal’s body. “The house was locked from inside, but a key to the door was kept in the letterbox. A suicide note was recovered in which he expressed apprehension that his brothers-in-law trying to grab his property,” said an investigating officer.
The suicide note is being examined. The Bagh Sewania police have registered a case and have begun investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the suicide.
