Senior IPS officer Surendra Sinh took charge as director general of police (DGP) here at the Police headquarters on Tuesday. After assuming the charge, Sinh told media persons that his focus would be on three points — to make the police responsible, people-friendly and answerable.

"I will do whatever I can for betterment of the department. I will ensure that department delivers on its responsibilities," he said. The DGP, however, parried several questions, saying he had just taken over the charge and would reply to only after going through the entire issue concerned.

He also refused to take on any question on the multi-layered Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, which has remained in the headlines from more than a year. "I am completely unaware of the action being taken by the STF. I will hold a meeting of officers concerned before making a comment on the issue," said Sinh.

Talking of rising number of crimes in the state, he said, "The number of crimes may have increased in the state, but if you go through the data you will find that the heinous crimes have reduced in the state," the top cop added.
