A 30-year-old tribal woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul was allegedly stripped and beaten with shoes on Thursday after a shop owner accused her of stealing money.
Athner police officials, however, denied any such incident but said there was a scuffle between the tribal woman and the shop owner lady.
The woman, a resident of Gehunbarsa village, had gone to a grocery store when shopkeeper Rekha Sahu accused her of stealing money from the cash box and got in to a scuffle with her.
When Sahu didn’t find anything from the woman, she called her relatives from the house and allegedly beat her with shoes in the middle of village.
Police received a complaint from the shop-owner that the tribal woman had stolen Rs 2,000 from her shop’s cash box.
“After sometime, the victim lodged a complaint that she didn’t steal anything and that she was allegedly stripped and beaten by the shop owner lady and her relatives,” said town inspector Satish Kumar Andhwan.
Sources said the accused were stopping anyone trying to save the woman. The victim was at last saved by a woman in her neighborhood.

“The police talked to the villagers about the alleged stripping and beating of the tribal lady, but everyone denied any such incident happened in the village,” said Andhwan
The police are investigating both the complaints.
“We will register a case if found any of the complaint true,” said he said.
