Family members of the undertrial prisoner, who died under mysterious circumstances in Bhopal central jail on Wednesday night, staged a chakka jam keeping the body on road in front of Kolar police station on Thursday.

An undertrial prisoner lodged in Bhopal central jail died under mysterious circumstance late on Wednesday night.

Veeru Rathore, 32, a resident of Gehukheda in Kolar locality, was arrested by Kolar police on charge of attempt to murder about four months ago. Later, he was sent to jail after being produced in the court. On Wednesday evening, he was admitted to Hamidia hospital by jail administration, where he died about 11pm during treatment.

Rathore’s family members suspected that he was brutally beaten up either by jail personnel or by prisoners. “There are injuries marks on his body that indicates he has been beaten up. He told me that he was beaten up, but he could not reveal the name as he fell unconscious. Police and jail officials are trying to hush-up the matter,” said Mahendra Rathore, Veeru’s elder brother. The relatives also alleged the woman, who had lodged a complaint against Veeru for firing at her, of hatching conspiracy.
