He said the government had also planned to hold religious discourses for the prisoners.

The minister was in the capital to inspect the Bhopal Central Jail on Monday. According to sources, Gaur visited the prison's kitchen as well as the workshop.

However, he avoided meeting his former cabinet colleague Laxmikant Sharma, who is lodged in the same jail, after his arrest in connection with the MPPEB scam last year.

The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam relates to the alleged irregularities in the recruitment and selection processes conducted by the board for various government jobs.

Sources in the central jail said Gaur visited the kitchen and checked the quality of the food.

He tasted the roti made in the jail kitchen. Later, he inspected the workshop where the prisoners designed furniture. He also inspected some other units in the jail.

"I am satisfied with the arrangements, especially the cleanliness inside the jail," he said. The minister spent over half-an-hour in the Central jail.

Gaur, who holds the jail portfolio apart from home, skipped visiting the prison hospital where VIP prisoners, including some of the high-profile PEB scam accused, are lodged.

Director general of prisons VK Singh and other prison officials accompanied Gaur during the visit.
