Amit Sadh, who took off for the US on August 9 to meet his family and friends, was held up at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York for an apparent security breach.

Among the gifts he was carrying for his loved ones, was a
kirpan
(ceremonial dagger) from the Golden Temple, Amritsar. Amit had picked it up a few months back, and had taken it to America for one of his friends.
Talking about the incident, Amit says, "I went for the security check and they asked me to wait for some time."
The actor thought it was part of their procedure and so, he followed instructions. He adds, "But later, a security official came and asked me for my passport, and whether the bag belonged to me. Upon confirming, they escorted me to a room, and inspected my bag. They removed the
kirpan
, which a friend of mine had asked me to get from India. I told them that it was a gift, and that it was of religious significance."

He said that the authorities interrogated him for several hours before letting him go. "They just didn’t listen. They kept questioning me for six hours. After waiting for so long, and after lots of arguments, I finally got the kripan back and left. It was honestly horrifying," recalls Amit.
