He admits, “Eleven films are under co-production right now, including Gandu director Q’s next, titled Pacher Desh, which is a musical based on a story by (Rabindranath) Tagore. Though this one isn’t controversial, I would support him even if he made porn.” The other films under Anurag’s banner are Hansal Mehta’s Next, Sachin Kundalkar’s film starring Rani Mukerji and Prithviraj, UK- based Pardesi films’ Monsoon Shootout, Michael Winterbottom’s next among others.

The director confirms all 11 films will release next year. He says, “If I like the script and the filmmaker, we help them by getting more co-producers on board and raising money. We don’t have our own money.” The director points out that his last release, Shaitan, had five co-producers. He adds, “I have been trying to promote the concept of co-production because it minimises everyone’s risks. And the film that needs to be made, gets made.”

Why is he on a marathon spree and how does he plan to get these films released? He says, “I support people because I want them to keep making films. I feel these people are great filmmakers and they shouldn’t become another me.” Where does he get the time to be a sounding board to so many? “I don’t attend parties. I work all the time,” he insists.
