And this April 1, the Indian version of the Razzies — The Golden Kela Awards — that “celebrates the worst of Bollywood” will felicitate the ‘Baadshah of B-grade’. And though the exact title of the award that Shah will receive is still being decided, the founder Jatin Varma insists that, “the Golden Kela doesn’t suit his (Shah’s) stature”. “We needed to give him something bigger, so we’re presenting him the Platinum Kela,” says Varma, who had a tough time convincing Shah that all this wasn’t a prank. “Since the event is on April 1, he thought exactly that. He didn’t believe us. Then we bought his ticket to prove to him that it was real. The intent is to honour him in good humour. No one can debate that he is an icon.”

“There will be stand-up shows, open-mics, music performances and film screenings,” says Varma, adding that Abhishek Sharma’s Tere Bin Laden (2010) will also be showcased as part of it. Those interested can even participate in the short film competition where the winner stands to win Rs 1 lakh in cash.
